Online Scams

Internet fraud has become so rampant in today’s world. There are multiple ways that one can be defrauded online. One can be defrauded on every social media platforms, on dating sites like Tinder. Nigerian internet fraudsters popularly known as Yahoo boys use Tinder to defraud people a lot, they scam government agencies and individuals of their hard earned money.

Some people get scammed through job openings that they see online. They apply for them, get called for interviews and when they get to the venue, they get robbed, kidnapped or worst case they get killed.

Some people get scammed by online travel agencies. They would promise to help them get a job or scholarship abroad and after making payments for some document processing, they stop responding to them and they become unaccessible.

Some even get scammed by online vendors, be it on Instagram, Facebook, Whatsapp and even Snapchat. After making payments for goods they want to purchase, they get blocked.

There are several other ways that people can get scammed and online scam is universal. It happens everywhere, it is not detrimental to a culture, tradition or place. Not all online agencies and vendors are scammers but the bad ones have made it difficult to trust the good ones.

  1. You’re absolutely right, internet fraudsters are so rampant it makes people doing legit jobs feel stupid , nobody is above getting scammed , however it’s only advisable to take necessary precautions while dealing with any online service or agency , thank you for your insightful piece .
